Success fees range from 0.5% to 10% depending on the campaign. A fundraising quota is assessed, and a quota is set based on CRM data and historic baselines prior to campaign launch.
KPIs, metrics, and activities are reported using Client-Owned CRM, Consultant-Owned CRM, or MGD-owned CRM depending on service levels. FTE and VP level consultants are expected to provide or use personal contact databases; Remote and PT are not.
PPPA means “Pay-Per-Performance” and is based on historic metrics. It has a smaller minimum retainer but requires a longer-term contract and a minimal NGO / NFP operating budget of $5M. Because fundraising and donor cultivation have long time horizons, 3 years of historic data should be provided for review.
Board seats, director roles, committees, volunteer days, capital campaigns, annual events, galas, fundraisers, off-sites, retreats, and other day-to-day responsibilities are case-by-case based on consultant / client goals and availability.
Remote, PT, and FTE contracts are 12-month auto-renew arrangements with a first 30-day trial / opt-out period with no risk or obligation. “Remote” consultants are primarily telephone / Zoom representatives who are not assigned to specific client campaigns and may support multiple client campaigns.
“PT” and “FTE” usually support one nonprofit client and integrate as a team member, but may also have other careers or family interests and therefore may not be seeking full-time work or employment.
“VP” is often an MGD consultant first hired on a trial basis as PT / FTE but expected to transition away from MGD and work full-time for the client beyond the 1-year initial term with a pre-determined initial compensation plan. VPs may also remain MGD employees if the client prefers MGD to retain HR, payroll, benefits, and legal administration.
